Sui experienced another mainnet network stall on May 29. It comes just hours after the blockchain restored activity following a previous outage tied to a software bug in its validator infrastructure.
The Sui team confirmed the renewed disruption in a post on X. It warned that “network activity may be paused at this time” while engineers investigated the issue.
The latest incident followed a nearly six-hour outage on May 28 that temporarily halted mainnet settlement across the network.
According to Sui’s public status page, the earlier disruption lasted 5 hours and 55 minutes. It was classified as a “major outage” affecting mainnet settlement.
Validator recovery required coordinated software upgrade
Sui previously said network activity resumed after identifying a “crash bug in the gas charging logic” introduced in the network’s 1.72 release.
The status page timeline showed the issue was first flagged shortly after 7 a.m. Pacific time on May 28, before engineers identified the problem, roughly 20 minutes later.

By around 12:40 p.m. Pacific time, Sui said a fix was rolling out to validators. The network later confirmed activity resumed after “>2/3 of stake have upgraded to the fix,” indicating recovery required coordinated validator participation to restore consensus.
The team said it would continue monitoring the network for additional issues after the restart.
Status data showed validator disruption while RPC nodes remained operational
Infrastructure data published during the incident suggested the disruption primarily affected validator operations rather than public RPC access.
Sui’s uptime dashboard showed that validator services experienced a major outage, while public RPC nodes continued reporting 100% uptime during the same period.
That distinction indicates users and applications may still have been able to reach public network endpoints even while transaction settlement and validator consensus were disrupted.
The renewed stall now raises broader operational questions after the network resumed activity only hours earlier.
Repeated interruptions following a coordinated recovery effort could place additional scrutiny on software rollout procedures, validator synchronization, and recovery reliability during network-wide incidents.
Sui said a full incident review would be released in the coming days.
Final Summary
- Sui experienced another network stall hours after restoring activity from a previous validator outage tied to a software bug.
- Status data showed the earlier disruption lasted nearly six hours and required more than two-thirds of validator stake to upgrade before the network resumed.
