Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who is currently in the U.S., commented in a Facebook video address on the report prepared by the Public Relations and Information Center state non-commercial organization, titled “On the Crisis in the Church and Ways to Resolve It,” saying that the actual situation established within the Church is far more serious than he had imagined.
“The report was prepared on my instructions. After reviewing the draft report, I concluded for myself that the actual situation established within the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church is far more serious than I initially imagined.
“The Armenian Apostolic Holy Church has been seized by Ktrich Nersisyan and a group of clergy and laypeople supporting him,” he said.
According to Pashinyan, reading the report is sufficient to be convinced of this.
“We will return to this topic,” he said.
The report is titled “On the Crisis in the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church Resulting from the Activities of Its De Facto Head and Several Senior Clergy Members and Ways to Resolve It.” It states that preparation of the report stems from the Armenian government’s 2026-2031 program and that it was prepared on the instructions of the Armenian prime minister. The report was prepared by the Public Relations and Information Center state non-commercial organization.
As a first step, it proposes forming a Reform Coordination Group with the participation of clergy and laypeople and publishing the procedure for expanding its membership. As a second step, it proposes the “removal of the de facto head” of the Armenian Apostolic Church.
